Cold, Hot and Liquid Foils

Foil stamping & Liquid Foil is a decorative printing technique used to apply metallic or pigmented foil onto various materials like paper, plastic, and packaging. Whereas Liquid foil uses a UV based raisin to give an embossed feeling. It creates a luxurious, shiny, or matte finish that elevates the product’s visual appeal.

How It Works:

Hot Foil :

  1. Die Creation: A custom metal die (plate) is created with the design that is to be foiled. This die is typically made of brass or magnesium.
  2. Heating the Die & Foil Placement: A roll of foil, consisting of a carrier film, release layer, color/metallic layer, and heat-activated adhesive.

Cold or Liquid Foil :

  1. Adhesive Application: A UV-curable adhesive is printed onto the substrate in the desired design. This is often done using a flexographic or lithographic printing unit.
  2. Foil Removal : After UV curing, the excess foil that did not adhere to the adhesive is removed, leaving only the desired foiled image on the substrate. The substrate may then go on to be overprinted with conventional inks if multi-color designs are desired on top of the foil.
  3. UV light cures the adhesive instantly, transferring the foil.

Benefits:

  1. No Dies or Setup Costs
  2. Enhances brand value and perceived quality
  3. Available in metallics, gloss, matte, holographic, and clear foils
  4. Adds tactile and visual impact
