Windowing, Die Cutting & Gluing

Windowing, Die Cutting & Gluing are essential post-print processes used in custom packaging, display boxes, and specialty print products.

Windowing is where a clear film is applied over a pre-cut opening. This creates a transparent "window" that allows the consumer to see the product inside while keeping it protected and contained.

Die cutting is a manufacturing process that uses a sharp, custom-made steel rule "die" to cut specific shapes. Die cutting allows for intricate, non-linear shapes, kiss-cuts (cutting through only the top layer), or score lines (for folding)

Gluing is crucial for assembling boxes, cartons, envelopes, folders, and other multi-panel items, ensuring structural integrity and functionality. Automated machines that precisely apply hot melt or cold glues to achieve efficient and strong bonds.

How It Works:

Windowing:

  1. A transparent film (like PVC or PET) is applied to a die-cut opening.
  2. Used in packaging to reveal the product inside without opening the box.

Die Cutting:

  1. A custom metal die (knife mold) is created to match your design.
  2. It is pressed into printed sheets to cut intricate shapes, slots, or outlines.

Gluing:

  1. Precise amounts of hot-melt or cold glue are applied to flaps and seams.
  2. Used to fold and assemble packaging, envelopes, folders, and more.

Benefits:

  1. Adds interactive and functional design features
  2. Increases product appeal and shelf presence
  3. Enables innovative packaging and promotional formats
  4. Supports automation for high-volume production
